Paula is an agroecologist and permaculture designer passionate about creating regenerative systems and connecting people to the land in a way that enriches both. She loves designing whole systems, getting new models on the ground to show what's possible, and problem-solving with the land.
In 2000 she founded Ecological Design (formerly Ecological Gardens). Paula has a master's degree from the University of Minnesota in Ecology, Sustainable Agriculture, and Landscape Design. She received her Permaculture Design Certificate in 2001. In 2003 she co-founded the Permaculture Research Institute Cold Climate where she currently teaches. She developed a plant database, www.permacultureplantdata.com, for designing polycultures, guilds and cropping systems and in 2010 co-authored a book of illustrated essays, This Perennial Land: third crops, blue earth and the road to a restorative agriculture, that provides a vision for restoring ecological health to Midwest corn and soybean country.
